Steelers First-Round Star Troy Fautanu Returns from Injury, Says “I’m Chasing the Super Bowl

Pittsburgh, PA – July 1, 2025

A Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie offensive lineman has been cleared to resume football activities, sources told ESPN. The promising talent, speaking at training camp’s outset, shared excitement about rejoining teammates at Saint Vincent College.

The first-round pick suffered a dislocated kneecap and ligament damage in Week 2 of 2024 against Denver, requiring surgery. The injury, sidelining him all season, demanded a nine-month recovery with rigorous physical therapy, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“I’m back with my brothers, stronger than ever,” Troy Fautanu said Wednesday. “Training camp’s my shot to prove myself. Missing my rookie year stung, but I’m ready to protect our QB and dominate.”

Drafted 20th overall in 2024 from Washington, Fautanu was poised to start at right tackle. His college PFF grade of 82.3 and 2023 Morris Trophy showcased elite skills. His absence contributed to 42 sacks allowed in 2024.

Fautanu’s grit shone through. “Watching the team struggle hurt,” he said. “My family kept me grounded.” His training camp drills, displaying agile footwork and power, have sparked optimism, per Steelers.com.

His return bolsters a line featuring Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick. “He’s a mauler,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “He’s moving like a star.” Fautanu aims to lock down right tackle, per NFL.com.

The Steelers, ousted in the 2024 Wild Card, face roster questions at quarterback and running back. Fautanu’s clearance lifts spirits as they eye their September 7 opener against the Jets.

At 23, Fautanu is driven: “My best is yet to come. I’m chasing a Super Bowl in 2025.” His training camp return fuels Pittsburgh’s championship hopes.
