The 341-Pound Monster Jeff Stoutland Can’t Wait to Unleash

Philadelphia, PA – May 28, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles are no strangers to turning unheralded offensive linemen into trench-dominating stars. But even by their lofty standards, the buzz around undrafted rookie Hollin Pierce is turning heads. And no one is more excited than the man who helped build one of the greatest offensive line units of the past decade: Jeff Stoutland.

At 6-foot-8 and 341 pounds, Pierce looks less like a rookie project and more like a bouncer for the NFL's elite. The former Rutgers tackle has quietly become one of the most intriguing stories in Eagles OTAs, not because he was a draft steal, but because he was never drafted at all. Yet among all the signings, trades, and picks of the 2025 offseason, Pierce may be the one making the loudest impression.

"The Philadelphia Eagles prefer mountainous offensive linemen," wrote Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski. "The 6'8", 341-pound Hollin Pierce certainly fits the mold." That mold, of course, is one forged by Stoutland himself, who has molded late-round picks and undrafted names like Jordan Mailata into cornerstone players.

Pierce started four seasons at Rutgers, switching sides with ease and earning second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2024. Scouts praised his ability to trap and seal defenders in the run game and use his sheer mass to box edge rushers into submission when given help. While some point to concerns with leverage and recovery, the Eagles coaching staff sees a diamond in the rough.

"I told Hollin, and I told all the young guys, 'If you're coming for my job, you better come hard, because I'm not giving it up easy,'" said team captain Jordan Mailata with a grin. "But I love the competition. This rookie class is something special."

Jeff Stoutland’s enthusiasm for Pierce is already clear, and if history tells us anything, when Stoutland gets excited, big things happen. Pierce is currently battling for a backup role behind Mailata and Myles Hinton, but if his size and coachability translate, he could be the next great undrafted story to anchor the Eagles' line.

And for a franchise that just hoisted the Lombardi, the idea of a 341-pound rookie mauler becoming its next unsung hero isn’t just exciting — it’s terrifying for the rest of the league.
