Steelers Could Bring Home Star WR Who Grew Up Bleeding Black and Gold

Pittsburgh, PA – July 2, 2025

A familiar name is circling back to the Steel City—and this time, it’s personal.

Tyler Boyd, the veteran wide receiver who carved out a reputation as one of Cincinnati’s most reliable targets, has made it clear: if the Steelers come calling, he’s ready to come home. After years of facing Pittsburgh in orange and black, the Clairton native might finally wear the jersey he dreamed of as a kid.

“Absolutely,” Boyd told reporters at his annual youth camp in Clairton. “All my family is here. I’d love for them to see me play in this stadium, in this city. That would be everything.”

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly revealed that Pittsburgh did, in fact, speak with Boyd earlier this offseason. Whether it was a formal contract offer remains uncertain, but the interest is very real. Last year, the Steelers reportedly considered trading for Boyd at the deadline before pivoting to Mike Williams. Now, with Boyd a free agent again and the Steelers still thin at wide receiver, the door is cracked open once more.

But this isn’t just about depth. This is about redemption. In the past, Boyd was vocal about his disappointment in the Steelers’ locker room culture—from the outside looking in. Yet behind the headlines, there was always one relationship that never wavered: his bond with head coach Mike Tomlin.

“I’ve always been cool with Coach T,” Boyd explained. “Back at Pitt, I’d go over after practice to chat with AB and Coach Tomlin. He’s always treated me with respect. We had a great vibe. If it happens, it happens.”

Boyd, now 30, still believes he has “a few good years left in the tank.” After a turbulent season with the Titans—where he recorded 39 catches for 390 yards in a broken offense—he’s looking for something more than just snaps. He’s looking for belonging.

And Pittsburgh just might be looking for someone like him: veteran hands, local roots, and something to prove.

Stay tuned to ESPN for the latest on whether Tyler Boyd’s homecoming becomes a reality—or remains a story only Pittsburgh dreams about.
