Baltimore, MD – June 23, 2025
The Baltimore Ravens and city leaders have finalized a $640 million private investment package to overhaul M&T Bank Stadium, with plans to transform it into the largest stadium in the NFL. The landmark deal, announced Sunday, has sparked excitement across Baltimore, according to ESPN.
The fully privately funded plan, reached after months of strategic negotiation, will expand the stadium’s seating from 71,008 to 86,200, overtaking MetLife Stadium’s 82,500 capacity. The Ravens will cover all costs themselves, per NFL.com.
Team owner Steve Bisciotti praised the agreement, stating, “This elevates M&T Bank Stadium’s legacy while staying true to the heart of Baltimore football.” The redesign focuses on adding seats while preserving the city’s gritty, electric game-day energy, per Baltimore Beatdown.
Originally opened in 1998, M&T Bank Stadium will undergo a three-year renovation beginning in 2026. Plans include modernized concourses, additional luxury suites, and a next-generation video board, per The Athletic.
The new lease agreement with the city extends the Ravens' control of the venue through 2055—a move made without using taxpayer dollars. Fans have applauded the self-funded approach, viewing it as a bold statement of ambition, especially after the team’s AFC Championship run in 2024, per RavensWire.
Construction will add over 15,000 new seats and dramatically enhance fan amenities, raising the overall experience. The success and local economic impact of Baltimore’s 2024 international game in Munich—estimated at $77 million, according to The Flock Report—further justified the expansion.
General manager Eric DeCosta views the move as a long-term strategic play: “This is about sustaining championship-level football deep into the next decade,” he told CBSSports.com, emphasizing the importance of investing during Lamar Jackson’s Super Bowl window.
As training camp nears, the massive stadium upgrade is already energizing Baltimore’s fanbase. Could a newly reborn M&T be the stage where the Ravens finally hoist Lombardi No. 3? Stay tuned to ESPN.
