No Second Chances: Eagles Cut 2 Rookies After First Look

Philadelphia, PA – June 1, 2025

In the ruthless world of NFL roster battles, dreams can be built—or crushed—before the real games even begin. That reality hit home for two undrafted rookie wide receivers, Darius Cooper and Taylor Morin, who were released by the Philadelphia Eagles after just one minicamp.

Cooper, a standout from Tarleton State, entered the offseason with high hopes after racking up 1,450 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2024. His physical frame (5'11", 210 lbs) and aggressive playing style made him an intriguing project. Morin, the sure-handed veteran from Wake Forest, brought polish and versatility, having notched 227 catches and nearly 3,000 receiving yards in college. He also offered special teams value, with 809 punt return yards to his name.

But in the NFL, potential only gets you so far.

“You don’t get many chances in this league. Every rep counts, especially when you’re coming in as an undrafted guy,” one NFC scout told Inside The Iggles. “Sometimes it’s less about talent and more about timing, and Philly’s WR room is loaded.”

The Eagles’ depth at wide receiver, led by stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, along with newly acquired speedster Jahan Dotson, leaves little room for error—or opportunity. The team’s early move to part ways with Cooper and Morin speaks volumes about the level of competition and the coaching staff’s expectations moving forward.

While the decision may sting, it’s not necessarily the end for either player. NFL rosters are always in flux, and practice squad opportunities or mid-season signings remain possibilities.

Still, for now, the message from the Eagles is clear: the standard is sky-high, and sentiment doesn’t win snaps.

“This isn’t college anymore,” one Eagles staffer reportedly said during OTAs. “If you’re not ready now, there won’t be a later.”
