San Francisco, CA – June 11, 2025
In a twist that’s set to stir up waves across the NFC, former All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander reportedly has his sights set on the San Francisco 49ers as his next destination after being released by the Green Bay Packers.
According to sources close to the player, Alexander—once the centerpiece of Green Bay’s secondary—has expressed a desire to join a team “with a winning culture, elite defensive coaching, and Super Bowl expectations.” The 49ers check every one of those boxes.
“I want to be where the standard is greatness,” Alexander said privately, per a league insider. “And in this league right now, that's San Francisco.”
Alexander’s interest comes on the heels of significant roster transitions for both teams. Green Bay let the 27-year-old go following two injury-riddled seasons, citing durability concerns and a shift toward youth. Meanwhile, the 49ers lost starting cornerback Charvarius Ward in free agency and are expected to rely heavily on rookie Upton Stout and second-year corner Renardo Green.
The timing couldn't be more intriguing. Alexander’s former defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, is now in Seattle—a division rival of San Francisco. But Alexander has history with 49ers DC Robert Saleh as well, having trained with players in Saleh’s system during previous offseasons. Saleh is known for maximizing DB talent—something Alexander may be banking on to reboot his career.
The biggest question is risk versus reward. Alexander has played just 18 games in the past two seasons, and durability is a serious concern. But the upside is undeniable: at full strength, he’s one of the most dynamic man-to-man defenders in the NFL. His swagger, speed, and physicality fit the 49ers' defensive identity perfectly.
Insiders say the 49ers front office is at least intrigued. With cap space still available and a Super Bowl window open now—not later—adding Alexander on an incentive-laden, short-term deal could be the kind of gamble that pays off huge.
“San Francisco has the culture and pieces,” one anonymous executive noted. “If Jaire wants to prove he’s still elite, this would be the perfect battlefield.”
Whether the 49ers will pull the trigger remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Jaire Alexander is ready to suit up in red and gold. The only question is—will the 49ers answer the call?
Stay tuned. This could get interesting.
