Baltimore, MD – July 5, 2025
The stars may headline, but sometimes it's the quiet risers who flip the script in Charm City. While all eyes remain fixed on Lamar Jackson, Zay Flowers, and Mark Andrews, a new name is quietly demanding attention — and he’s not wasting any time doing it.
After inconsistent production from Nelson Agholor and the injury bug haunting Rashod Bateman, the Ravens made a low-risk, high-upside draft move: selecting Devontez Walker, the former UNC burner whose college journey was anything but smooth. He came in with little noise — no flashy videos, no day-one hype. But now? He’s forcing coaches and veterans to pay attention.
“He got me bad on that corner route. No excuse,” one defensive back reportedly admitted to staff after a red zone rep during minicamp. It was one of several standout moments Walker had during 7-on-7 drills with the second team — including a deep-ball snag from rookie Devin Leary that turned heads on the sideline.
This is the same Walker who slipped in the draft due to eligibility drama and lost reps in college. But here in Baltimore, something feels different. Maybe it’s the playbook. Maybe it’s the chip on his shoulder. Maybe it’s the hunger to prove the league wrong — again.
Even Zay Flowers chimed in. “He brings that deep-threat energy. Length, speed — it makes our group more dangerous,” the Pro Bowler said this spring. It’s not an over-the-top endorsement — but in a receiver room as crowded as Baltimore’s, any praise is earned.
The Ravens aren’t asking Devontez Walker to be a star. They’re asking him to be ready. And so far, he’s answering that call with every rep.
If this momentum carries into training camp and the preseason, don’t be surprised if Devontez Walker becomes Baltimore’s next breakout — the kind of late-round steal that only Eric DeCosta seems to keep finding.
