Goedert Breaks Silence on Trade Rumors — and Why He Stayed in Philly

Philadelphia, PA – May 29, 2025

Against a backdrop of swirling trade rumors and an offseason of uncertainty, Philadelphia Eagles star tight end Dallas Goedert has finally spoken out — and his words paint a picture of a player who knows his worth and never lost faith in the team or his place in it.

Throughout the spring, speculation ran rampant about Goedert's future in midnight green. With a significant cap number and the Eagles eyeing younger talent, many believed a trade was inevitable. But when the dust settled, Goedert not only remained on the roster but restructured his contract to stay in Philadelphia for at least one more season.

Speaking candidly with reporters this week, Goedert didn’t shy away from addressing the emotional rollercoaster he endured. "There were definitely days that were filled with emotion... just kind of sat on the couch and stared at the TV blankly like, 'What's going to happen?'" he admitted.

The 30-year-old tight end, who signed a major contract extension in 2021, emphasized that he wasn’t willing to accept just any deal to stick around. "I wouldn't want to play for less... I know my value. I feel like the Eagles know my value. There's a threshold that I felt like I deserved. And we were able to get there."

Goedert’s revised deal will pay him $10 million guaranteed with a chance to earn an additional $1 million in incentives. While it doesn't provide long-term clarity — as he remains unsigned beyond the 2025 season — it does signal mutual respect between player and organization.

The veteran also offered insight into how the process played out behind the scenes. He credited general manager Howie Roseman and his agent for handling tough conversations and options, including trade or even release. "I kind of told my agent what I thought would be best for me, certain numbers that I wanted to have... and he worked that out and got it done," Goedert said.

The Eagles remain contenders, and keeping a reliable pass-catcher and blocker like Goedert is a win for Jalen Hurts and the offense. However, with no other tight ends currently under contract for 2026, the front office will eventually have to make a longer-term decision.

For now, Goedert is focused, motivated, and eager to prove that his presence in Philly isn't just about sentiment — it's about performance. "I’ve always given everything to this team," he said. "And I’m not done yet."
