Philadelphia, PA – June 12, 2025
Miles Sanders is officially a Cowboy — and the NFL world is buzzing. Once the explosive running back that helped drive the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance, Sanders is now deep in the mix for the starting job in Dallas, just a year after being cut by the Carolina Panthers.
Despite a frustrating 2024 season plagued by injuries and limited usage — only 55 carries in Carolina — Sanders isn’t backing down. Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer made his stance clear: “I don’t know why anyone would be surprised by Miles’ ability. He’s a home run threat, a guy that can hurt you in every phase.”
Sanders spent four seasons in Philadelphia, rushing for over 3,700 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. His final year with the Eagles was his best — 1,269 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns, and a key role in their NFC Championship run. His departure from Philly was bittersweet for fans, and his journey since then has been anything but easy.
Now, Sanders finds himself in a competitive and crowded Dallas backfield. He’s up against Javonte Williams, a former Bronco who posted modest numbers in 2024, as well as rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. But Schottenheimer isn’t shy about hinting at Sanders’ edge: “He’s smart, he’s been through big games, and he’s been here since Phase 1 of our offseason program. That matters.”
The Cowboys, reeling from a disappointing postseason exit, are desperate to reestablish a physical identity on offense — and Sanders could quietly become the centerpiece of that effort.
Philadelphia fans have mixed reactions. Some are happy to see Sanders get another shot. Others are already bracing for the emotional whiplash of seeing him in a Cowboys uniform.
It’s far too early to name a starter. Pads haven’t even gone on yet. But one thing’s for sure: Miles Sanders is not done — and his next chapter might be his most dramatic yet.
