Brock Purdy Shares Leadership Wisdom with 49ers Rookies on Day One of OTA

Santa Clara, CA – May 27, 2025

On the first day of organized team activities at the 49ers' Levi’s Stadium complex, quarterback Brock Purdy stepped into his role not just as a franchise player — but as a mentor.

Speaking to reporters after practice, Purdy shared a powerful message directed at the incoming rookie class: “You’re never too experienced to learn, and never too young to lead. This league rewards discipline, not ego.”

Purdy, entering his fourth season, knows what it’s like to start at the bottom. From “Mr. Irrelevant” to Pro Bowl quarterback, he emphasized the value of humility and consistency in front of the young players. “I come into every year like I’m still earning the job,” he said. “Because I am.”

Rookie standouts like wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and linebacker Nick Martin were seen listening intently as Purdy addressed the team during warmups. Pearsall later told reporters, “Seeing how Brock leads — not just in games but here, in these moments — shows you what being a professional really means.”

During the day’s drills, Purdy was locked in. He completed a 40-yard touchdown to George Kittle during 11-on-11s, and spent time on the sideline going over film with Pearsall and second-year back Jordan Mason. Purdy’s energy and attention to detail seemed contagious.

The quarterback also took a moment to acknowledge the new defensive staff under returning coordinator Robert Saleh, praising the “iron sharpens iron” mentality during competitive reps. “They’re going to test us every snap — and that’s exactly what we need,” he said.

Fans on social media quickly took notice, with one 49ers fan page posting, “Purdy’s not just our QB1 — he’s the heartbeat of this team.”

With the opener against the Philadelphia Eagles looming on September 7, the 49ers’ young core is drawing strength from their leader’s presence — not just in performance, but in poise.

And as the next chapter of the 49ers era begins, Brock Purdy isn’t just preparing to win games. He’s shaping a locker room.
